Allegheny County
Following a presentation by Heeding at St Brendan’s Episcopal Church in Sewickley, the Social Justice Ministry brought the Memorial to the Lost® to Allegheny County in July of 2022. For several weeks at a time, ten churches and the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh hosted the Memorial to the Lost® over a period of several months. In tandem with a Memorial to the Lost® display at each host congregation, there was an opportunity to send letters supporting common sense gun laws and more than 1,000 letters to state and federal government officials were signed during this time.
Sadly, the number of shirts will grow as the number of deaths from gun violence has climbed in Allegheny County. The community response to local events was warm and receptive, and we received coverage in local print and TV media. We are looking forward to organizing more gun violence awareness events in 2023.
